Library of Softball (LOS) is a custom search engine that offers users a custom-tailored "softball search experience." Built using Google's core search engine technology, LOS prioritizes search results based on websites and pages that are relevant to the game of softball.
"Unlike other library or directory sites, LOS is not a collection of links posted on a web page," said Martin Diano of Softball Institute, (SI) the creator and curator of LOS. "Our mission is to connect people to information - no matter how specialized or specific - as quickly as possible. LOS allows users to combine Google's search algorithm to create a customized experience - thus making access to softball-specific information across the web easier for users".
Leveraging the Power of Users to Affect Quality Control
A major feature of LOS lies in its ability to filter URLs that are irrelevant or bogus and eliminate them from search results. Users, too, are empowered with the ability to suggest URL deletions for the same reasons. Requests for removal from search results are reviewed by SI to maintain quality control.
